About four years ago I was introduced to a nutritional ‘oddity’ concerning a rather confusing molecule called nitric oxide.  Originally thought to be an insignificant by-product of metabolism and also knows to be a noxious result of the combustion process, its importance in basic physiology of the body was not well understood.

Imagine the surprise of the molecular biology folks and the researchers when the realized that not only was nitric oxide (NO) important to a wide variety of body systems it would soon be called the most important signaling molecule in the body and absolutely essential to life itself.

My interest grew to the point where I decided to throw my hat in the ring and work on formulating and producing nutritional products that centered around this Nobel winning science and in fact create the premier product available.  I continue to tweak and adjust the formula as new understanding comes to light and we understand how our Innate intelligence utilizes supplementary nutrition.

As a Gonstead diplomate and a practitioner of the technique for 26 years, the disc and its ability to repair and receive optimal correction is a key focus for me.  Having delivered tens of thousands of Gonstead corrections I realized that no matter how specific the adjustment is….if the body is not in a position to optimally heal at a cellular level, the ‘stay put’ value is poor.  This can be frustrating for both the provider of the correction AND the patient.

The disc is one unique area of the body that can be comprised of tissue that is up to 20 mm or more distant from the blood supply that serves it.  Diffusion and fluid convection, assisted by the movement dynamic of the normal disc, is essential to prevent nutrient starvation and the onset of advanced degeneration.  As we are all very familiar with the entity that disrupts this process (subluxation), we know that restoration of optimal movement is essential to preserve nutrition and disc vitality.  Of course if the subluxation complex is present for any length of time, the nutritional supply will have been compromised with expected negative results.

So both are very important!  Movement and nutrition.  We provide specific assistance to restore vertebral motor unit biomechanics AND we have the opportunity to enhance the circulatory capacity of the capillary system that serves the disc.  Hence my deep interest in both specific chiropractic and specific, or targeted, nutrition.

I will be giving another 8 hour CE module on Gonstead technique and case management, with a significant focus (four of the eight hours) on the targeted nutritional component.  If you are in Seattle this weekend, contact our state association at www.ChiroHealth.org to register or we can accommodate you as a walk in.  Also, I am affiliated with Parker University for continuing education, so please request my seminar through them for your specific area.

I believe we are positioned at a unique window of opportunity.  We have the sharpest and brightest minds in molecular and clinical nutrition providing us with the latest and most relevant information regarding nutrition and how to best assist the body to heal by providing it with the whole food building blocks that make this healing process most efficient.  This combined with the incredible science and art of specific chiropractic….well, the results are potentially revolutionary.

Arm yourself with the best information and tools you can.  Read more and as you learn your patients will reap the benefit.  As they understand better and become more accountable for their portion of the doctor/patient team, they will experience increased wellness and be that much more likely and willing to refer.

If you have any questions regarding this topic, please do not hesitate to call on me.  Also you can download Dr. Steven Tanaka’s excellently written and documented paper on disc nutrition and nutrient transport from my web site www.PerryChinn.com/downloads

IN-JOY your LIFE!
