This video link caught my eye this morning from one of my Linked In contacts…
It reminded me of the public “service” campaigns that the Phillip Morris company did years ago to draw attention away from the ugly fact that their cigarettes were killing millions of people and destroying lives with the hopelessness of addiction.
The sad fact is that this mega-corporation knows the psychology of the buying public very well. They know that by “coming clean” that they will not only create another level of warmth in the hearts of their consumers…they will sell a lot more product as well! It is a classic “win/win”!
Another facet of this unfortunate truth is that this will likely not decrease the incidence of diabetes worldwide (China by the way has over 93 million diabetics now). Their brand positioning, marketing strength and label recognition is so firmly entrenched in the psyche of the consumer that they could publish an ad with a skull and cross-bones, show emaciated, nutritionally starved people in their ads…and they would still sell product!
To be honest I am not sure what to make of this little video. Is it in fact a product of their advertising department? By all appearances it seems so…and is it truly as simple as the blatant use of reverse psychology?
We are facing a crisis of immense proportions regarding the health, well-being and holistic consciousness of this country. And it appears that corporate America is not going to ease up anytime soon! Our defense is increasing awareness and losing our naivety when it comes to corporate intentions.
Our health and wellness is very rarely near the top of the list!
We are beginning to understand better the long term effects of ingesting not only calories devoid of any nutrient value as well as the danger of consuming synthetic calorie substitutes. There truly is no shortcut when it comes to providing healthy nutrition for our body. Whole foods and high quality nutritional supplements that utilize whole food nutrition are really the only intelligent way to fuel our bodies.
I really do not want to assume the nature of intent on the part of Coca Cola….however if this is truly just another deceitful marketing ploy…shame on them! Seriously how the heck do they sleep at night?
