I love quotes.  It has become a bit of a hobby of mine to collect them.  It is said that one of the great tragedy’s of human existence is forgetting the wisdom attained by those who have gone before and therefore sadly repeating most of their mistakes.  Mistakes can be of great value however it is also true that being a student of history and applying the wisdom of our antecedents might help us avoid some of the anguish of personal and societal growth.

“Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep.” — Scott Adams, American cartoonist

And here are a few gems from a gentleman widely acknowledged as the father of innovation and persistence….

“Results! Why man, I have gotten a lot of results. I know several thousand things that won’t work.”

“I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is another step forward.”

“I never failed once. It just happened to be a 2000-step process.”

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” – Thomas Alva Edison

“The point is not to take the world’s opinion as a guiding star but to go one’s way in life and working unerringly, neither depressed by failure nor seduced by applause.” – Gustav Mahler

“If I have a thousand ideas and only one of them turns out to be good, I am satisfied.” – Alfred Nobel (Author’s note:  Nobel is considered 2nd only to Edison on the number of patents)

Remember…failure is an ILLUSION!  Mistakes are but a step toward discovery!
